“Conducting unveiled: Sharing Simon Rattle’s Vision through Revolutionary EyeTracking Glasses” is a wonderfull story, I would like to share.
In this captivating rehearsal of Wagner’s Siegfried with the BRSO orchestra, we had the privilege of conducting an eye-tracking experiment with none other than Sir Simon Rattle himself.
Witness the incredible nano-cameras as they meticulously trace Sir Simon’s every gaze, granting us an exclusive glimpse into the conductor’s vision.
“Split second shifts give the conductor and musicians a chance to anticipate the next move, but on a much larger, integrally collective scale.”
This story brings together some together some topics already touched before, like conducting (as art of leadership), music (and skills), orchestral playing (for collective intelligence) and of course active inference and embodied complex predictive coding.
As stated during the video:
“This degree coordination is only possible through expert level anticipation.”
The research is also explained in another shorter video, and described on web-pages of the University of London
“While some believe the eye reflects the soul, it is truly a window into the mind and the brain.
Our challenge lies in comprehending the multifaceted dimensions of the conductor’s gaze: its swift traversal through space and time—moving ahead of the music yet effortlessly connecting with the musicians, just at the right time.
We witness their engagement, as well as moments of introspection where the conductor seems to retreat into his own realm.”
“Nur das ganze, sehende und hörende, das ist das vollkommen verstehende Gehör, vernimmt aber den inneren Menschen mit untrüglicher Gewissheit”
